Video - LeBron Breaks His Silence

Nice of him to offer a few words in the aftermath of his team's post season meltdown. Clearly, he's pissed off about losing...and rightfully so. I don't agree with him not congratulating the Magic after the game, but I understand where he's coming from. You would hope for better sportsmanship from the MVP of the NBA, but it is what it is. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure Dwight Howard isn't losing sleep over it...he's got bigger fish to fry.

And speaking of fish...that's the last time we talk about Cleveland fisherman here at Have You Seen Me Dunk for the rest of this post season.

Happy fishing, LeBron!

The King Is Dead...Long Live The King

66.

39.

28, 7, 7.

1.

4.

0.

Ok, you might be wondering what these various numbers have to do with anything. Lotto numbers? Lock combination? No...here goes:

66 represents the number of games that the Cleveland Cavaliers won this season. 39 is the number of home games they won (out of 41), which is one of the best home records in NBA history. 28,7, and 7 were LeBron's averages in points, rebounds, and assists - one of the best stat lines ever. 1 represents LeBron's first Most Valuable Player award, received after leading his team to the best regular season record in NBA. 4 represents the total number of post-season games that the Cavs have lost during the 2009 NBA Playoffs. And 0 is the number of times that the Cleveland Cavaliers won on the homecourt of the Orlando Magic this season. O is also the number of NBA Championships that LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers possess.

The last two numbers, 4 and 0 are the only numbers that matter here. Although their current postseason record is 10-4, that record has no chance at improving because of their 0-3 postseason road record against Orlando. Frozen in time because the Cavs couldn't work their magic away from the Q and because they had no magic against the Magic.

This is no fluke, though. Orlando has simply owned the Cavs over the last two or so years, winning 12 out of 17 games against Cleveland. The Cavs could have won the championship on the back of LeBron James...if they got the right match-up. Despite their 66-16 regular season record, they were only 3-6 against the "elite" teams of the NBA - Los Angeles (0-2), Orlando (1-2), and Boston (2-2).

And like just like that...after ripping off 8 straight wins to start the playoffs...after all the dancing and general good vibes that they felt all season long...it's all over. And King said no words to anyone after it was all said and done.

0. No championship to soothe decades of heartbreak.

That's my lasting image of LeBron James. A person, who in defeat, didn't have the grace and poise of "royalty" to congratulate the foes who dashed his championship hopes against the rocks.

I forgot one more number...2010. Anyone who has been following basketball this year knows the significance of 2010. And if Cleveland hopes to keep their Most Valuable Player on the roster for years to come, they better make immediate changes to turn that 0 into a 1 next season.

But for now, His Majesty will have to be content with being King of the lake for yet another summer.

Nice promos from the NBA. You can just feel the Playoffs in the air, right?!

LeBron James and Kevin Garnett

Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal

I like these. Especially since they did two cats in the East and two in the West.

Thanks for nothing, Ben Wallace.

The Ben Wallace era is over and we’re already better.

I am not ashamed to say that when I first heard that Ben Wallace going to be a bull, I told anyone with ears that the bulls were going to win the NBA Championship. I saw how hard we fought the Miami Heat in the 2006 playoffs and felt like we were almost there. Too bad the Ben Wallace that we got simply didn’t care anymore.

He was controversial from the start – everyone saw that his production was declining and questioned the sensibility of John Paxson for paying so much for the services of a 6’9” center that has little to no ability to score in the low post. Not to mention the fact that we shipped out a 20-something, 7-foot center who put up very similar numbers. Well, Ben came in and promptly caused a tiff based on his head band and the rest of the season was one long pout session for Ben Wallace. We swept the Heat and fell to Ben’s old squad in the second round of the 2007 playoffs. If the bulls played the Pistons every night, Ben might still be on the squad since those are the only times it seemed like he really and truly cared.

This season it was clear that all of the players had tuned out Scott Skiles and that attitude began with Ben Wallace. Even after Skiles was fired, thing didn’t turn around and John Paxson finally swung a deal to abort this failed experiment.

Wallace signed with the bulls to spite the Pistons. Detroit is where he really belongs and should have stayed, however the Pistons were not confident that his asking price was what they were willing to pay. Ben never looked comfortable in a bulls uniform and now he’s able to move on to a squad that will never ask him to provide leadership. Let’s face it, he’s not a leader anyways. Perhaps Lebron James will inspire Ben Wallace to find his game. I hope not.

With the players that we got from the Cavs, maybe we can turn things around and make a strong push for the playoffs. The East is as weak as ever, so hopefully we can squeak in. It really sucks to be back in a rebuilding mode, but this offseason we have the opportunity to get things back on track. Hopefully Hughes and Gooden work out; if not, then they can move on. We also need to see what's to become of Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, Thabo Sefolosha, and Tyrus Thomas. They are the core of the team and it may be time to say goodbye to one of them.

Good riddance, Ben Wallace.

LeBron Owns The Fourth, Pt. 2

Here's a rip from Sportscenter showing LeBron putting the pressure on the whole Raptors team, with some funny digs at Chris Bosh's shorty:

Word to the wise:

Maybe as foolish as heckling him.

A lesson the Raptors and their fans had to learn the hard way.

"I say probably leave him alone next time," Bosh said.

LeBron Owns The Fourth

Pure dominance in the fourth quarter is LeBron James' forte:

Fueled by some good-natured heckling from Toronto star Chris Bosh's girlfriend and others, James outscored the Raptors 24-20 in the fourth quarter of the Cleveland Cavaliers' 93-90 win on Sunday.
Yes, you read that right. LeBron outscored the Raptors 24-20. What kind of nonsense is that? Granted, they fueled the fire by talkin' ish, but how does one man outscore an entire team... in their backyard?! Maybe Vince Carter needs to give up that "half man/half amazing" nickname?

Patiently Waiting

That's a skill I've learned, being a Nets fan since Derrick Coleman was a rookie. When you come to realize that most teams are truly just getting by, waiting to either get an ill player to make it all pop, or just lose enough to get a good draft pick, you can rest easy knowing that, hey, these games don't matter...

Who am I kidding?! All of these games matter, but do you think New Jersey is playing that way? Let's recap the last week in the Nets' life:

  • News of Eddie Gill getting waived hit on the 12th. He wasn't a star, and with Darrell Armstrong & Marcus Williams on the way back, the room for a 4th PG was lacking.
  • Rod Thorn let it be known that he is not even trying to hear offers for Jason Kidd... at this time. He did let it be known that the Nets need to turn things around, and fast, with speculation being that a trade is in the works.
  • Kidd and Vince Carter were 2nd and 3rd in the Eastern Conference All-Star voting, which is weird. You'd think someone as old as Kidd, who can't get an equal in trade talk, wouldn't even be on anyone's radar...
  • Speaking of Kidd, Jane Doe is suing him for groping her butt and crotch at a nightclub. I'd imagine he didn't do this, I mean that sounds crazy weird, but who knows...
  • Friday the 14th saw the Nets pummel the Cavs on both sides of the court, getting a 105-97 win at home. Sean Williams suited up and came off the bench to much praise; Carter & RJ dropped 32 and 24, respectively, in a great second half performance.
  • Saturday the 15th found the Nets getting rocked by the Knicks, in New York, in an offense-less 94-86 loss. With Jefferson knocking down 14(!?!?!) points on 7-21 shooting, you can just think of how bad the rest of the squad did. Poor performance.

Which takes us to last night's disappointing loss to the Kings. The end score was close (106-101), but with the Nets delivering 22 turnovers (half coming from Kidd and Jefferson), as well as our apparent inability to defend the three point shot (Sactown was something like 13-for-21 from downtown), and us letting John Salmons come up with a career-high 31 point night, it just wasn't in the cards. S-Dub did come up with 11 points, 7 boards and 8 blocks in his start last night, but sadly it was the only true highlight to another game we could have won, given we tightened it up.

We're now at 10-15, when we should be over .500 right now. Sadly, without some change (whether it be with the bodies in the uniforms or the brains in their heads), we will continue to get by like Kweli. There's no reason, in a conference as scattershot as the East, for the Nets to not be capitalizing. We're a top team but that's in the sack of losers. We can do it, but when will we realize that?

Nets Notes (5th December 2007)

This game was a wrap before the first whistle, and the Cavs proved what many fans dreaded: their team is "just-OK" with Lebron on the bench (they are 0-3 without King James, and have lost the last 4), losing last night's game with a final score of 100-79. Richard Jefferson lit up the scoreboard with 36 points (and is now 4th in the league in scoring), Vince Carter added 19 points and 7 dimes, and Jason Collins even scored 7 points! Jason Kidd sat out the entire 4th quarter, and the Cavs got whupped at home. Happy Birthday, Hov.

Tonight, the Nets face the Knicks in New Jersey, and it looks like it could be a repeat of last night for the Nets. There's no word on who will be the starting PG for the Knicks, but at 5-11, unless the Nets truly fall asleep at the wheel, it shouldn't matter much WHO is at point for New York. Al Iannazzone has the right idea, and the Nets should heed his words and take the bull by the horns. Keep the momentum going and press on.

Finally, while we lost the guy who helped the Nets sign Vince Carter, we might end up getting Kiki Vanderweghe, aka the former GM over in Denver who brought them Kenyon Martin (the NBA is a small world), is a possibility for the open GM spot, as is Mark Jackson, interestingly. More on this situation as it develops...
